The Whitehouse Butterfly House would like to invite you to celebrate Father’s Day with us! The weekend of June 16th and 17th, father’s will receive 1/2 off admission to the Butterfly House.

The Butterfly House is a 3,000 sq. ft. facility, complete with a gift shop. The main greenhouse is filled with hundreds of flowers and over 1,000 butterflies from all over the world. Winter Fire Prevention Essay Contest

With the recent fire in Toledo where the homeowner did not have a battery in his smoke detector, we believe it is a good time to involve the community in increasing the awareness of how to prevent a fire disaster during the winter months.

Operation Evergreen

Wheeler Farms is participating in Operation Evergreen again this year. Three hundred Christmas Trees throughout the state of Ohio will be shipped to military bases in Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. Collection sites are needed to collect non-breakable Christmas ornaments, banners, Christmas cards and personal notes that will be sent along with the trees. Over the past few years, donations have been fewer for various reasons. Our hope is to reverse that trend. Current collection sites are The Andersons stores, Anthony Wayne Schools, The Butterfly House, Maumee Schools & St. Joe’s Maumee Catholic Elementary School. Girls Scouts from Anthony Wayne, St. Joe’s Maumee and Lial will be sorting and packaging donated items at The Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm on November 4th. The Monarch Release (weather permitting)

Hundreds of locally raised Monarch butterflies will be released to begin their migration to Mexico.

This is a FREE event. A short program will be presented talking about the Monarch Butterfly. The Butterfly House will be open to the public at 10:00am prior to the release. Normal rates will apply.

The 4th Annual Shrimp Harvest

The 4^th Annual Shrimp Harvest will be held this Saturday, Sept. 17th at the Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm located at 11500 Obee Rd. in Whitehouse, OH. The shrimp harvest begins promptly at 8am and sales begin at 10am.

In early June, 20,000 juvenile shrimp were placed in the pond. Last year, we harvested just over 1200 pounds. This year, the shrimp appear to be a lot larger so we are hoping for an even bigger harvest.

It is a very exciting event and many of our customers have enjoyed assisting us with the harvest. You are guaranteed to get dirty, so bring an extra pair of clothes.

Poco Piatti at Levis Commons will be preparing sample shrimp dishes for purchase.

If you haven’t already, you can still pre-order your shrimp online thru Thursday, Sept. 15th. All shrimp are sold whole by the pound. Please bring a cooler to transport the shrimp home.

Opening Day of The Corn Maze

The Corn Maze season is right around the corner, This year, we will be opening on September 10, 2011.

We have created five different mazes for our guests. Four of the mazes are military themed. We hope to increase the public’s awareness of the contribution and commitments to our military families throughout our community. These sacrifices are ongoing and we will need to continue to pray for them and help them any way we can.

We also have created a 1.9 mile Harry Potter Maze, which we are sure will be enjoyed by many.

About The Butterfly House

The Butterfly House contains over 1000 butterflies with many different species from North & South America and Asia.

The facility was built with the idea of developing beautiful gardens in a controlled environment to exhibit butterflies to the general public. An opportunity to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and how to promote a healthy environment for these special insects will be provided as well.

Serenity will surround you with the wonderful garden setting, where you can sit back and relax with the background sounds of a waterfall and nature itself.

Observe the life cycle of several species of butterflies occurring naturally in The Butterfly House.

Live butterflies flutter from flower to flower feeding on the nectar. They search for their mates, dance and bask in the warm sunshine.

The average life span of the butterfly is 2 to 3 weeks, so each week we introduce new species. Throughout the season we will have over 100 different species, so multiple visits can be rewarding.
